The band Earth, Wind and Fire or more commonly known as EWF, had its origin in Chicago, Illinois, United States, and was founded by Maurice White in 1969. Their innovative music spans over various genres, including R&B, Soul, Funk, Disco, Pop, Rock, Dance, and Jazz.
The band was formed out of White’s first band, Salty Peppers. White, along with two friends, Don Whitehead and Wade Flemons, released two singles, “Uh Huh Yeah” and “La La Time,” which were a marginal hit for Salty Peppers. White shifted to LA, where he completed his ten-man team of musicians and singers, and thus, the EWF was born.

EWF signed with Warner Bros. Records released their debut studio album, Earth, Wind and Fire in February 1971. The album was well-received by R&B fans and found itself on the Billboard Top Soul Albums chart at No. 24.
In 1974, EWF collaborated with American jazz composer Ramsey Lewis for the album Sun Goddess. The album was produced by White and was a hit with a No. 1 position on the Billboard Top Soul Albums chart and No. 12 on the Billboard 200 charts. The album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Earth, Wind and Fire have won several awards, including six Grammy Awards, four American Music Awards, ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award, Soul Train Legend Award, and the BET Lifetime Achievement Award. EWF also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
