Frankie Beverly, who was born Howard Beverly, is an American singer, lyricist, and producer who formed the group Maze, originally called Raw soul. In his early life, before Maze came together, he formed an acapella group named The Blenders, which was sadly short-lived then he went on to form The Butlers with whom he officially recorded for the first time in 1963.

The Butlers were renamed as Raw Soul, which finally became Maze that we know presently. He and his band members were introduced to Marvin Gaye, who featured them in his show as the opening act, which let them to success.

The group went on to release 9 RIAA certified Gold albums from 197 to 1993. Their debut album Maze featuring Frankie Beverly gave hit singles like Happy Feelin's, Lady of magic, and While I'm Alone and earned them their first gold and a dedicated following.

Frankie Beverly and his group went on to release hits and well-received albums over the years. The group also garnered popularity in the UK through DJs Greg Edwards and Robbie Vincent when they performed live for broadcast on Capital Radio at London's Lyceum Ballroom around the late 1970s and early 1980s.
